Restaurants On Wayanad – Calicut Road. Popular Restaurants In Wayanad. White House Restaurant. Making Of Mutton Mandi. Pidi Kozhi Porichatu. White House Restaurant Wayanad Road, Puduppadi, Kozhikode Road

Although a relatively recent eatery, White House Restaurant located in Puduppadi has turned into a dining hotspot for travellers on the Wayanad-Kozhikode route. Lured by its enticing offerings that include traditional Keralan dishes cooked on wood-fired stoves and much loved Arabian dishes like the Mandi, prepared in deep rubber wood-fired brick pits, we had to stop here for a meal enroute to Kozhikode.

Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna relishes a 14-dish Prawn Curry Meal, a juicy Pidi Kozhi Porichathu, the Mutton Mandi of course, and a Ayakora or King Fish Fry.

TAWA FISH
The kingfish has been cocooned in a masala with coconut milk as its base and hence the spicicing is quite gentle in its warmth. I like the crunch of the coconut flakes in the masala.

PRAWN CURRY MEALS
I was expecting a bowl of prawn curry and rice, but instead it came in a procession of 14 dishes packed into tiny bowls. The prawns were fresh and cooked with the head, which is where the flavour pop is! A nice touch were the drumsticks in the curry. Also enjoyed the crunch of the beans poriyal, the bitter gourd, the fish pickle and the red chilli chutney with a touch of sweetness. The paruppu payasam is the perfect end to the meal here.
Rs. 140 (usd 2)

PIDHI KOZHI PORICHATHU
A juicy bird despite its scrawny size, and served with a mutta (egg). The fried curry leaves makes for a toasty relish. One of the signature dishes here, loved the crunch of the masala that this chicken is covered in before being deep fried.
Rs. 200 (usd 2.8)

MUTTON MANDI
cooked the traditional way in a brick-lined pit oven. The meat peels away effortlessly from the bone with a thin flavourful veil of fat. The rice is scented with the meat juices and hit of saffron. The mandi is served with a smattering of chutneys, but I preferred savouring the delicate flavours of the dish sans any condiment.
Rs. 550 (usd 7.7)

Avoid chicken dishes review in this corona spreading time. In calicut and wynadu district they already ban chicken dishes in hotel…one kg chicken price get down below 40 rupee per kg at Kerala
